Delta Seniority Integration Committee Steal the AFA Thunder!

On February 11th, 2009 the Delta Integration Committee released a statement disclosing their unanimous vote regarding the integration of the Delta and Northwest flight attendants. The committee recommendation is an "In-Flight Date of Hire" merge. This truly is the only fair integration and is a win for all the flight attendants!

However, one can only imagine what is going on at AFA Headquarters with this announcement. The AFA union has successfully used their fear-mongering rhetoric since the merger announcement and just one of those "reasons" to keep AFA on the property was to protect the "date of hire" integration supported by AFA.

NOW WHAT??

Seems the merger committee has agreed to the DOH integration, and stolen away the AFA rumbling and fear-mongering thunder!

  • Despite AFA's refusal to meet with this committee at possibly a detriment to the membership.......this committee did the right thing!
  • Despite the AFA refusal to allow the flight attendants to get on with their lives and call for an election, the merger process goes forward
  • Despite the AFA refusal to even discuss integration until "they" think an election should be announced
  • Despite AFA refusal to talk but rather sue in court instead!
  • Despite the general membership seeking an expedited merger, including pay raises! AFA refuses to listen to the voice of the members
  • Sounds like its all about dues and winning an election. Clearly, the interests of the membership have been put aside all for the $$$$$$$$

Well, quite simply the Delta Integration Committee did their job, unlike the AFA. It would seem that maybe, just maybe, many of the AFA members might be thinking......Well, it looks like it will be DOH, so maybe one more reason to ignore the AFA fear mongering and scare tactics. And just one more reason why maybe the AFA war drum may not be in any one's best interest for our future........just a thought!

With all the fear mongering AFA thunder gone, the all powerful and mighty AFA is left with simply....a bunch of hot-air!

Ok, I had to laugh when I read AFA's rebuttal e-mail entitled "SENIORITY LIST MEANINGLESS WITHOUT CONTRACT". AFA doesn't negotiate industry leading contracts. in fact, their contracts are now some of the lowest paid and worst contracts in the industry today.

If AFA thinks they will be able to negotiate what the Delta FA's already have, they are mistaken. Because here is Delta's playbook:

If you vote non-union, here is what you will get: what the Delta FA's currently enjoy - plus!

If you vote for AFA, you will see your income impacted by dues deductions, months of negotiating for NWA-like workrules. Possibly lose what we have now. Who the hell wants that?

If I was a Delta FA, why would I vote for a Union who could possible lose what I currently enjoy?

Why would I need a 3rd party to decide what is best for a group that currently has a good direct relationship with the employer?

If the company currently is working WITH the flight attendants to establish and protect both interests, then what is the point of AFA?

Just an opinion. And from a union supporter to boot so watch your tongue mean-spirited LEC presidents (other than Kate of course)

Dear Anon,
Thanks for your post. ...Your comments are the lives lived by the NWA flight attendants, the past 3 years. The same old horse and pony show! The opinions and views I am hearing out on the line; AFA had better be worried. This seniority integration is just one more reason for AFA to panic and notch up the fear mongering rhetoric. However, we must all remember NOT to get wrapped up in the emotions and fear-mongering and make decisions with a clear head and conscience. I might add, you are right on regarding the LEC Presidents (excluding the hard working and dedicated activist and ONLY union official who tries to keep AFA honest, Kate Day.) Unfortunately, it is an uphill battle for Kate as she continues to get outvoted and outmanuervered by the other self serving union officials. Speaking of.....I have a new blog about the corruption, unauthorized payments, excessive per diems and a recent resignation! Stay tuned for that....

Thanks Anonymous. Sometimes, I just feel there is never enough time in a 24 day....rest assured, more is on the way, as AFA attempts to set a date for an election.....AGAIN!
